Hazel Marie Brannian, age 88, of Brooklyn, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa.
Hazel is survived by her children, Roger and wife Deborah of Ankeny, Laurel Seeley of Huntsville, MO and John and wife Anita of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 grandchildren, Ben and Tom Brannian of Prairie Village, KS, and Austin Brannian of Ankeny, and a sister Doris Adamson of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Maynard E. Brannian.
Hazel Marie Adamson was born December 28, 1920 in Centerville, IA, the daughter of Karl C. and Mamie Masters Adamson. She graduated from the Williamson High School in 1938, and received a teaching certificate from Chariton Junior College. She married Maynard E. Brannian on February 23, 1946 in Chariton, Iowa. He died in 1977.
Hazel taught in the schools in Lucas County, and Rhodes and Brookyn, IA. She also worked at BGM Elementary during the 1970's. Hazel enjoyed quilting, painting and genealogy. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially with the grandchildren. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, the Poweshiek Genealogy and Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Columbian Club, and Social Circle Club. She also belonged to the quilting guilds of Montezuma and Grinnell.
