Mrs. Hazel Clayton, 82, Pella, formerly of Brooklyn, died Friday at the Pella Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Madison Church of Christ, rural Brooklyn. Charles Evans, minister of the church, officiated. Burial was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of William and Janet Lang Hall, she was born Sept. 27, 1893. She was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1916 and taught in Poweshiek County schools for three years.
On March 3, 1921, she was married to Walter R. Clayton in Des Moines. They farmed in Madison Township. Mr. Clayton preceded her in death in 1949, and for the past four years Mrs. Clayton had made her home in Pella.
She was a member of the Madison Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Max of Russell and William of Brooklyn; four daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Smith of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. John (Phyllis) Thornburg of Pella, Mrs. Jack (Norma) Hicks of Marion, and Mrs. Joan Anderson of Tama; one sister, Mrs. Glen Read of Brooklyn; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
