Funeral services for A.J. Hammersley, 90, a longtime Coalgate resident, will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 at Cottonwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Weathers officiating. Burial will be in Non Cemetery under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service in Coalgate.
An auto mechanic, he died on Monday, May 3, 2010 in Coalgate. Born in Parker, Oklahoma on February 13, 1920, he was the son of Richard and Neomia {Wood} Hammersley.
He was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church. He married Lavette Weaver on June 21, 1941 in Parker. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1996.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Richard and Neomia {Wood} Hammersley; a sister, Lavetta Reed; four brothers, Ralph, Orland, Albert, and Lawrence Hammersley; and a son-in-law, Harold Tolson.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Tolson; three grandsons, Darrel Tolson and wife, Melissa; Gale Tolson and Kyle Tolson; eight great-grandchildren, A.J. Tolson, Kevin Tolson, Anna Tolson, Michael Tolson, Ethin Tolson, Trent Tolson, Ashley Tolson, and Amanda Tolson; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Hammersley and Elvis Hammersley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
