Cornelius Burkholder, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Summit township died at his home near Garrett on Wednesday, July 27, of infirmities incident to age. He was a son of the late Noah and Carolina Burkholder, and was born in Summit Township, August 17, 1851, and lived the greater part of his life on a farm about two miles west of Garrett. He was aged 75 years, 11 months and 10 days at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Malinda Cross, and six children. Three children preceded him to the grave. The surviving children are: Miss Carrie Burkholder, of Meyersdale; Noah and John, of Garrett; Milton of Somerset; Mrs. Della O'Hara, of Braddock, and William, at home. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four sisters -- Mrs.Willis Duecker and Mrs. Seward Marker, of Garrett; Mrs. Zenus Holliday of Gransville, Md. and Mrs. John Vought, of Rockwood. Mr. Burkholder was a staunch Democrat in politics, and a faithful member of the Lutheran Church. The funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. C. P. Bastian of Berlin, his pastor, Rev. S. F. Tholan, being away at another funeral. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery on the Burkholder homestead, by Undertaker J. L. Tressler, of Meyersdale.
