Andy Gookin, son of Samuel and Lydia Gookin, was born in Lucas County, Iowa, Oct. 4, 1873 and passed away at a rest home near Los Angeles, Calif, Oct. 15, 1951 at the age of 78 years, one week and three days.
He had been in failing health for the past two years. He was converted and united with the Christian Church at Russell, Iowa in 1902.
On Dec. 18, 1901 he was united in marriage to Ina Martin, and to this union three children were born, Marvel, Ardis and Donald.
He was a farmer in Lucas County for many years as long as his health permitted.
In 1933 he moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he lived until his death.
His parents, six sisters and three brothers, and one grandson preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn, two daughters, Mrs. Marvel Willits of Chariton, Mrs. Ardis Conner of Des Moines and a son Donald also of Des Moines, 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, all of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Mary White and Mrs. J.D. Threlkeld, both of Chariton: several nieces and nephews and many friends.
A kind and loving disposition, he will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services were conducted from the Beardsley Funeral home, Thursday, Oct. 18 with Rev. D.J. Holman officiating.
Burial was in Chariton cemetery.
