WILLITS
Marvel K. Willits, daughter of A. D. and Ina M. Gookin, was born in Washington Township, Lucas County, Iowa, Jan. 2, 1903 and passed away Nov. 23, 1983 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 23 days. She was a member of Chariton Christian Church since 1917 and graduated from Chariton High School in 1922.
Marvel married Harry George Willits Jan. 11, 1925 at Russell, Iowa. To this union two children were born; a daughter, Margaret Louise, and a son, Harry Melvin.
After the death of her husband, she was employed by Gross-Galesburg Manufacturing Company and Continental Telephone Company in Chariton until her retirement in 1970.
A member of Rebekah Lodge since 1947, she served as Noble Grand in 1962 and 1972.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Donald Gookin and wife Lucille; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Willits; and brothers-in-law, Atlee Winsor, Ralph Conner, Robert Willits and Richard Willits.
She is survived by her children, Margaret and Melvin; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou; grandchildren; James, Peggy and Robert, all of Des Moines; also by her sister, Adris Conner of Altoona; sister-in-law, Florence Winsor Phippen and Fern Willits of Russell; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, 1983 at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery.
