Elizabeth Johnson Newby, a former resident of Salt Lake City, died on January 4, 1996 in Guilderland Center, New York. She was born on May 13, 1906 in Heber City, Utah to Nels J. and Mary Ann Orgill Johnson. She graduated from Wasatch High School and also attended the University of Utah. She married William W. (Kim) Newby on June 7, 1928. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1977.She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Hans A. (Navee) N. Pohlsander, of Delmar, New York; three granddaughters, Dianne M. Pohlsander (Brooklyn, NY), Eileen L. Pohlsander (East Greenbush, NY) and Margaret K. Lund (Ooltewah, Tenn.), and four great-grandchildren. Also is survived by a brother, Ralph J. Johnson (Salt Lake City) and two sisters, Lucille Whiting (Springville) and Loretta Sherwood (Bountiful).Two brothers, George W. Johnson and Ronald Johnson, and two sisters Merne Edwards and Mildred Larsen, preceded her in death.Beth spent most of her life as a loving wife and mother but she also worked at the Salt Lake City public library and the University of Utah library. After her retirement she volunteered at the Utah Historical Library of the University of Utah. She also was proud of having been a riveter during World War II.She was active in the LDS Church, the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and the University of Utah Women's Club. Funerals services will be at the Olpin Mortuary in Heber City at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 12. Viewing will be on Thursday, January 11, 6-8 p.m. and on Friday, January 12, 12:00-1:00 p.m.Donations to the Utah Historical Library of the University of Utah or to the Primary Children's Hospital are suggested in place of flowers.
