Hannah was the daughter of Sarah (nee Clark) and Samuel Hewlitt. Both of her parents died in 1811 when she was only 10 years old. Hannah plus her siblings (Homer, Samuel Clark, John, and Benjamin C. and unnamed infant children) were left under the guardianship of John Richardson.
Hannah married Louis Champine on December 27, 1821, in DeKalb, St. Lawrence County, New York. Their children born in St. Lawrence County, New York were Sarah, Melissa, and Clark. Around 1830, the family moved to Ontario, Canada, where Charles, Mary, Louis and John were born. Around 1855, Hannah and Louis relocated to Mitchell, Wisconsin and a few years later to Wabasha County, Minnesota where they lived out their lives. All of their children also left Canada, and most of them lived near one another in Wisconsin and then in Minnesota.
