Irene Ann Ketter Schroedl, 90, Falls City, Nebraska, died Tuesday evening, April 27, 2010 at Community Medical Center, Falls City.
The daughter of Andrew George and Bernadine Augusta Bokern Ketter, she was born at home in Kelly, Kansas on September 3, 1919. She lived on the family farm until moving to Falls City in 1937. She attended St. Bede's Grade School, Kelly; Mt. St. Scholastica Academy, Atchison, Kansas; and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Falls City, in 1938.
Mrs. Schroedl worked at the Hotel Weaver Coffee Shop and the Vogue Dress Shop in Falls City prior to her marriage on May 15, 1942 to Howard Leo Schroedl at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Falls City. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Falls City Hospital during World War II. For over thirty years she assisted her husband with his State Farm Insurance agency. The couple owned and operated the Rivoli Theater in Falls City for many years. Mr. Schroedl passed away on January 12, 1996. Irene has made Careage Estates, Falls City, her home for the last seven years.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Cordova #96 and treasurer of the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for eight years. She was a former Richardson County 4-H leader and an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan. Irene enjoyed family activities and loved to cook, garden, and travel. She and Howard were active with the Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club for many years.
Irene is survived by daughters, JanBebermeyer and her husband Charles, Hiawatha, Kansas, Mary Kruse and her husband Tom, Richmond, Virginia; sons, Joseph Schroedl, John Schroedl and his wife Tammy, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; brothers, Clarence Ketter, St. Joseph, Missouri, Verness Ketter and his wife Janet, Chillocothe, Missouri; sister, Mary Landon and her husband Leo, San Antonio, Texas; sister-in-law, Millie Ketter, St. Joseph, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren , eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rev. Leander J. Ketter, and Melvin P. Ketter; sister-in-law, Mary Thelma Ketter and, three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Msgr. Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Burial will be in the Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
