Melvin P. Keller, 74, died Wednesday, November 11, 1998, at Heartland East Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born October 18, 1924, in Kelly, KS; his family moved to Falls City, Nebraska, where he attended high school. He graduated summa com laude with a B.S. from Benedictine College, Atchison, KS, where he received the Kansas Monk Award in 1972. He served as instructor at the college from 1967-72 in the accounting department where he established the accounting major program. In addition, he served as founding president of the National Alumni Association of the college from 1968-70 and served on the college boards of trustees, directors, governors for many years. After college graduation he relocated to St. Joseph, MO, where he established an accounting firm. Throughout his career he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Missouri and Kansas. He was a member of the American Institue of CPAs, Missouri Society of CPAs, Downtown Rotary Club #32, St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce.

Mel was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and served on the Finance Council of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, in addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #571, and a charter member of the St. Joseph Chapter of the Serra Club.

In 1952, he married Millie Gawatz of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Augusta Ketter, and by his brother, Rev. Leander J. Ketter.

Survivors include daughters, Katherine A. Hirt, Lenexa, KS, and susan M. Lierz, St. Joseph, MO; sons, Michael J. Ketter, Green Bay, WI, James P. Ketter, Prairie Village, KS, David J. Ketter, Phoenix, AZ, Joseph R Ketter, Appleton, WI; sisters, Irene Schroed, Falls City, NE, Mary Landon, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Clarence H. Ketter, St. Joseph, MO., and Verness B. Ketter, Chillicothe, MO; and 21 grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 am Saturday, St. Joseph Cathedral.
