He was a minor in 1837 when his uncle Hiram Camp gave bond as guardian for him and "Elizabeth, Abner, George W., Edmund Camp and Elizabeths tombstone gives her birth as 1820. George was a prosperous merchant at Carrollton until his big interest in the Savannah, Griffin, and North Alabama Railroad was lost, leaving the original builder and stockholders minus all they had invested in it."
