Mr. Eugene Felton Tuten, 85, died Saturday (January 25, 2003) at Baptist Village after an extended illness.

He was born on October 30, 1917 in Pierce County to his late parents, James Holiday Tuten and Ernie E. Peacock Tuten. He was a graduate of Blackshear High School, and he married his wife, Louise Vining on August 21, 1942. Crawley Gas and Oil employed Mr. Tuten in 1939. On August 28, 1942, he entered the U. S. Army, and he was discharged in 1943. After his discharge, Mr. Tuten returned to Crawley Gas and Oil where he worked until his retirement, October 30, 1982. Mrs. Louise Vining Tuten passed away on March 9, 1983. Mr. Tuten enjoyed fishing as his favorite leisure activity. He was also a member and deacon of Second Baptist Church since the early 1950's.

Mr. Tuten is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kate Douglas, and five brothers, Arthur Tuten, Leroy Tuten, Eldridge Tuten, Horace Tuten and Donald Tuten.

He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Hanson (husband Paul E., Jr.) of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Jeryl Tuten (wife Donna Gray) of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Julius Tuten of Blackshear; five grandchildren, Thomas Michael Hanson, David Scott Hanson, and Leigh Hanson Palmer (husband Richard) all of Jacksonville, FL, Jeryl E. (Jay) Tuten, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, and Holly Elizabeth Tuten of San Francisco, CA; a great grandson, Mitchell Hanson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday (January 27, 2003) at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Music Funeral Home.

The Adult Mens II Sunday School Class is asked to meet 1:30 p.m. at the church to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Village, Second Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
