Mrs. Akin attended Fairmont elementary schools and was graduated from Fairmont high school. For a number of years during her young womanhood, she was employed by founders of the Fairmont Creamery while its entire operation was conducted in this community. For a short time, she also lived in the state of Washington, and in Omaha, but returned to Fairmont for the remainder of her life.
In 1903 she was married to Dr. Malcolm M. Akin, who was then beginning the practice of dentistry. Dr. and Mrs. Akin were the parents of three children, Dr. Fred M. Akin of Lincoln, Neb., Maurice C. Akin of Northfield, Ill., and Mrs. C. J. Davis of Somerset, O., all of whom survive.
In addition to her responsibilities as a wife and mother, Mrs. Akin was for many years extremely active in religious, fraternal and social groups. She was a 50-year member of the local chapter of the P.E.O., a secretary of the Royal Neighbors, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Kensington, a woman's social club. She was a lifetime member of the Congregational Church and its present successor, the United Church of Christ, and served devotedly in nearly all phases of its work.
Besides her three children, Mrs. Akin also is survived by a brother Guy Chapin of Ogallala, Neb., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, at the Feberated Church in Fairmont, Rev. Paul W. Walker officiated. Mrs. Ronald Hall sang "The Lord's Prayer." accompanied by Mrs. Jerry Galusha. Pallbearers were Carl Arbuck, Homer Goodrich, Hubert McClellan, Gailord Phison, Lewis H. Real and George White. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery.
