Frederick Manellus Chapin, sixth child of Manellus Church and Leonora Freeman Chapin, was born August 1, 1855 at Sheffield, Mass., and passed away May 9, 1933, at his home in Sandwich, Illinois; aged seventy-seven years, nine months and eight days.

The family moved from Sheffield to Winnebago, Illinois, when he was about ten years old. In 1875, the family moved to Fairmont, Nebraska, and the following year he homesteaded what is now known as the Harmon home place.

In 1877 he married Carrie Ella Fisher, whose parents were also pioneers in this community. To this union three children were born--Mrs. Harriot C. Akin, Fairmont, Nebraska; Mason Isaac of Riverton, Wyoming; and Guy E., of Hebron, Nebraska. His family resided on the original homestead until 1891, when they purchased and moved to the Pinney farm and lived there until 1898, and then moved to Fairmont, where he was engaged in business until about 1918.

In early life he joined the Congregational church and the Masonic lodge.

After his wife's death in November, 1919, he and his sister, Miss Elizabeth Chapin, resided on the Fisher farm, where he again engaged in farming.

In 1921 he was married to Mrs. Ella McKee of Sandwich, Illinois, where they have since resided.

He is survived by his widow; his three children; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jane Hager, Los Angeles, California; two brothers, William H. Chapin, Port Angeles, Washington; and John F. Chapin, Hansville, Washington.

Funeral services were held from the Federated church in Fairmont, Nebraska, Friday afternoon, May 12, the pastor, Rev. Isaac Cassel, officiating. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.

Those attending the services from out of town were: Mrs. Ella Chapin and Mrs. Phern Middaugh, Sandwich, Illinois; Mason I. Chapin, Riverton, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Chapin and family, Hebron, Nebraska; Landy Clark, Dr. Fredrick and Maurice Akin, Lincoln, Nebraska; Jean F. Akin, from Doane College, and W.W. Parish of Exeter.
