Lake Providence, La., March 19 - Wyly Benton Millikin, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Millikin, died Friday night at 9 o'clock at Arlington, in this parish, the home of his parents. On Monday last Benton, as he was familiarly called, was taken ill: on Tuesday Dr. F. R. Bernard was called to see him, and pronounced the disease cerebral meningitis. Later on Drs. W. D. Bell and W. B. Pierce were called in, and these three physicians worked faithfully and did everything in their power to check the disease, but to no avail. Benton was a model young man, the pride of his parents. At the time of his death he was 18 years and 7 months old, and he had spent all his life here with the exception of one year spent at Emery College, Oxford, Ga. He was a member of the Providence Fire Company No. 1, and immediately after his death the engine house was draped in mourning and the flag put at half past. The funeral took place yesterday at 12 o'clock, the Rev. H. O. White, of the Methodist church, officiating.
