Mrs. Matcouff, 103, a longtime resident of Oak Park, died Sept. 16 in Mariner Healthcare Center, Westchester.
Mrs. Matcouff was born Jan. 29, 1898 in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania, to Henry and Anna Graf, the fifth of their six children.
Although the family was German by culture, they resided in Lithuania at the time of their emigration circa early summer of 1911, clearing customs through the port of Philadelphia, joining family members already settled in Sheboygan, Wis.
Mrs. Matcouff began her long work history in her early teens, first as a seamstress, later as a hair stylist in posh salons on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. During the Depression years she worked alongside her husband, Bill, in the family's woodworking business. She retired from paid employment circa 1970.
Throughout her life Mrs. Matcouff produced countless hand-crafted, crocheted and embroidered items and sewed much clothing for herself and others.
During her life she enjoyed her family and in her later years occasional travel to Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Mrs. Matcouff is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Anne (Thomas) Cook of San Diego, Calif., and Shirley June (Roy) Lundin of Indian Head Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Stephen, Thomas, David and Karen Cook and Michael Lundin, Laura Simpkiss and Bethel Lundin-Martinez.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in 1952 by her husband, William Matcouff; two brothers and three sisters.
