Civil War: Company B, 2nd California Infantry

Giovanni [surname unknown] was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in the 1850's where he assumed the name John Rogers. He eventually made his way to California. During the Civil War, at age 27, he enlisted as a private for 3 years at the Presidio of San Francisco December 28, 1864, and was mustered into Company B, 2nd California Infantry. Private Rogers was mustered out at the Presidio of San Francisco May 10, 1866. After the war he next appears in Kansas where he filed for a Civil War veteran's pension July 18, 1890, and received certificate No. 583,264. Ultimately, he was living in St. Louis, Missouri, where he died in 1896. Someone ordered a veteran's headstone for John Rogers and it was delivered to Calvary Cemetery.
