ZIPPERER
Walter James Zipperer of Gulf Shores died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1925, to Floyd and Amy Zipperer, on Bird Key in Sarasota County, Fla.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 upon graduation from high school. A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged on May 7, 1946. He and his wife, Annette, lived and raised their family in Bradenton, Fla. After retirement, they moved to Wakulla, Fla., later to Aiken, S.C., and finally to Gulf Shores in July of 2008. He and his wife were members of the Church of Christ (South Baldwin) in Foley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laura Lanier and Effie Goodwin; and a brother, Murray Zipperer.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Annette Nosworthy Zipperer; five siblings, Pearl Clark of Ft. Meyers, Fla., Floyd "Bud" Zipperer and Harvey (Margie) Zipperer, both of Soperton, Ga., Myrtie Cummins of Bradenton, Fla., and Charles R. "Bobby" (Pam) Zipperer of Sebring, Fla.; three children, Jerry (Susan) Zipperer, of Montmorenci, S.C., Joyce (Leo) Hastings, of Gulf Shores, and James (Martha) Zipperer, of Ocean Springs, Miss.; six grandchildren, Chris Zipperer, Karen (Tom Rich) Kent, Joshua (Andrea) Hastings, Micah (Jeff) Lanning, Caleb (Leslie) Hastings, and Kathleen (James) Fosterl; and eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Hannah, and Emily Lanning, Connor Hastings, and Bridget, Ivy, Trace and Fiona Foster.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22 at Mack Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23 from the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will follow at Pinerest Cemetery in Foley.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Robertsdale.
