He joined the Nebraska National Guard and was a Veteran of World War I.
After leaving the service, he worked for Bird City Equity in Bird City, Kansas.
Ralph married Emma Margaret LORENTZ on April 24, 1917 in Hastings, Nebraska, and together they had six children
