A true pioneer, he lived in a "soddie" until after World War I, when he built a wooden house for his first wife Anna Kleidosty. She died soon afterwards and he remarried to his former sweetheart Gertrude Schuetz Schmitt in 1923, who was by then a widow. Gertrude died in 1945 and Adam followed her to heaven in 1953. They were survived by a large blended family.
