"Sallie Williams Brown, wife of O. L. Brown, died at her home in Newport at 12:30a.m. Aug. 27, 1915, of diabetes. She was a daughter of Urias and Elizabeth Duzan Williams and was born near Howard, Parke County, August 25, being 50 years and two days old. She was married March 28, 1889, to Oliver L.Brown and to this union were born four children, Gladys Hollingsworth,Vivian Stewart, Blanche and Lloyd, who, with the husband, three half sisters and a sister, survive. She took a child, Dorotha Harding, to raise, whom she treated as one of her own. At the age of 19 years she united with the Presbyterian church at Howard and remained in the faith to the end. She was of a retiring nature but always had a smile for everyone. She was a good wife and a faithful mother and had many friends who united with surviving relatives in mourning her early departure.
She was in failing health for four months, but only confined to her bed for two weeks before she fell asleep.
The funeral services were conducted Sunday morning at the M. E. Church by the Rev.
Adam Clarke, assisted by the Rev. John S. Brown. It was the largest attended church funeral in years. Burial took place in the
Newport cemetery."
