He was the second son of Richard and Mary Bannister of Southfleet and the brother of William, Mary and Charlotte.
He was baptised on 15th December 1771 at St Nicholas Church, Soulthfleet.
When he was about twenty-six years old he married Elizabeth Stoneham, also of Southfleet, at St Nicholas Church, Southfleet on 13th November 1797. They had seven children, Lydia, 1798, Lucy, Anne, 1802, Sarah, 1805, Susan, 1805, William, 1807 and Charlotte, 1809.
He died on 27th October 1844 and was buried in St Botolphs' churchyard, Northfleet. His grave is unmarked.
