Ulrich Paul son of Paul Anton Arendt Sr. (1889-1963) and Susie Ann Neu Arendt (1889-1970) was the 3rd child and 2nd son of a family of 16 children (3 died as infants).

Ulrich Paul was drafted in the US Army during WW2, entering service at Camp Wolters, Mineral Wells, Texas. After basic training Ulrich was assigned to the Edgewood Arsenal, Aberdeen, Maryland. Edgewood was the US Military Chemical Weapons depot. Ulrich soon became ill and was sent to Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Washington DC. He died on 2 April 1942, age 25, after brain surgery to remove a tumor. He had been serving only 6 months since his induction.
