He was born August 14, 1921, in Defiance, the son of Albert J. and Anna (Randolph) Maag. On February 21, 1946, he marred Elizabeth "Betty" Eck, who survives.
He was the owner/operator of Maag's Cafe in Defiance, retiring on January 1, 1980. He was an Army Air Force staff sergeant, serving during World War II, and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Eagles, Elks and VFW Post 3360 of Defiance and the Continental American Legion Post.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Maag, Defiance; three sons, John C. Maag of Findlay, Ohio, James M. (Becky) Maag of Defiance and Joseph A. (Carol) Maag, Defiance; six grandchildren, Doug Maag, Andrea (Rich) Bruns, Kristen (Rob) Burgess, Alan (Jenny) Maag, Julie Maag and Jay Maag; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, M. Gertrude Deitrick of Defiance and Marian Gump, Defiance.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Catherine A. Maag; and a brother, Robert R. Maag.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2010, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father Robert Kill and Father Dave Tscherne officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 3360
