Abel was born in Windham CT the son of Abel and Abigail (Moulton) Bingham II. Abel moved to East Haddam in 1773, 1774, and fought in the Revolutionary War in Saratoga 1777-1781. He then married Jemima Ely on Sept 9, 1784. Jemima died Sept 3, 1827, and is buried next to her husband although she does not have a headstone. Abel and Jemima had five children:
Elisha b. May 22, 1786 d. Oct 26, 1805 (Bashan Lake Cem)
Anna b. May 26, 1788
Jemima b. Nov 12, 1791 d. Jan 23, 1812 (Bashan Lake Cem)
Ely b. July 17, 1793
