HARRY R. CLINGMAN

Harry R. Clingman was born March 31, 1889 at Chariton, Iowa and passed away at his home 1370 Allison Ave., Los Angeles, Calif. April 19, 1953, at the age of 64 years and 19 days.

The deceased and his twin brother, Harvey L. Clingman, attended business college in Des Moines in 1910 and 1911. They secured positions at the business firm in Des Moines. Later, in 1912 Harry entered the banking business.

In 1927 he went to Los Angeles, Calif., where he continued his banking experience as teller and bookkeeper for the Citizens Trust and Savings Bank, a branch of the Bank of America.

In 1940, when the Coast Federal Savings and Loan Association was established, he was offered a position with them and he rose from the position of teller to banking for this institution. He continued to hold this position until the time of his death. Mr. Clingman was working in his yard with his flowers when he suffered a fatal heart attack.

He was a veteran of World War I, 1918 and 1919. He was a very temperate individual, led a clean upright life, loved his home, his friends and his community. He was a member of the First Methodist church of Los Angeles.

He had never married. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Maggie Jane Worley Clingman and a sister, Mrs. Ola Ann Smith. He is survived by three brothers, William H. Clingman of Chariton, Clell C. Clingman of Pueblo, Colo., and Harvey L. Clingman of Bettendorf, and one sister, Mrs. Clarice Jessie Riddle of Chariton, besides ten nieces and five nephews.

His twin brother, Harvey, flew to Los Angeles after receiving notice of his brother's death.

Memorial services were held there Wednesday, April 22, and from the Beardsley funeral home in Chariton, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Apr. 26, and the body laid to rest in the family lot at the Chariton cemetery. The Rev. Robert W. Swick was in charge of the services. It was a military funeral with the American Legion Post of Chariton in charge at the cemetery.
