Alexander Kennedy was born in Scotland, ca 1753. He was an early settler in the town of Salem, NY. He bought and settled on Lots No. 43 & 54. He was active in town affairs, serving on a Grand Jury in 1785 and in 1790. During the Revolutionary War he was driven from his land (Lot 80). He sold his land in Salem by 1795, when his name no longer appeared in the records. He moved to Argyle, N.Y. and remained there until his death in 1817, aged 64.

Alexander married Syble/Sibbel CANNON, 2 Feb 1786, Sandgate, Bennington Co.,VT., the ceremony being performed by the Rev. James Murdock. (Sybbel was possibly the daughter of John Cannon, a Rev.War veteran living in he area.

Alexander & Sybbel had seven children: James R., Catherine,b.1790; John, b 1796; Sarah; Alexander (the younger) b. 1799; Elizabeth, b 8 Mar 1801 and Margaret, (b.1 Apr 1807, Argyle) Most of their family moved "west". Daughters Elizabeth & Margaret married, became Mormons, and died enroute to Utah from Nauvoo, IL., ca 25 miles beyond the Missouri River.
Alexander died 14 Jan 1817, Argyle, Washington Co.,NY. Burial was in Cossayuna Lake Cemetery, at the head of Lake Cossayuna. (Sometimes called McEachron Cemetery)

Alexander Kennedy's Will made in Town of Argyle, County of Washington, State of New York, was dated Dec 26, 1816 and probated Feb 5, 1817. Executors were James Kennedy and John Robinson. His heirs were: Wife Syble Kennedy, son Alexander Kennedy, son James Kennedy, son John Kennedy, daughter Catherine Robertson, daughter Sally Kennedy, daughter Elizabeth Kennedy and daughter Margaret Kennedy.
