Darby - Retta Clara Christopherson, 82, a longtime Darby resident, died Thursday in Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
She was born July 4, 1898, in Ogden, Utah. At age 5 she moved with her family to Lavan, Utah, where she received her schooling. When she was 18 she moved to Baker, Utah, where she worked for a few years in a country store.
She married Bert Christopherson Sept. 8, 1921, in Utah. The couple moved to Darby in 1928. She was a member of the Darby Mormon Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband June 26, 1965. Survivors include two sons, Duane, Las Vegas and Lynn, Darby; seven daughters, Janice Heiland, Dorothy Armstrong, Cora Mae House and Joyce Higginbotham, all of Darby; Ruby Bratton, Ronan; LaRae Schallenberger, Las Vegas, and June Holt, Sula; a sister, Bertha Burton, Murray, Utah; 30 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a twin brother, five sisters and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Darby Mormon Church with Bishop Robert F. Parmenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Lone Pine Cemetary in Darby. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Retta was known for never turning away anyone coming to the door and asking for some food, even if she did make them earn it by working around the ranch. When three prisoners escaped from Deerlodge in the 70's and were suspected of being in the Darby area, her children feared the worst when they couldn't contact her. Retta was just fine when they arrived, she had been out working late in her yard.
Legend has it that her husband Bert returned home late to supper once to find all the children sitting at the table with no food on their plates. The axe for chopping kindling for the the wood cook stove was sitting in his chair.
