The angels called upon Norma Lee Leeder, 66, of Scottland Drive at 4 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at her home.
After an accident in the family, Norma quit school and went to work in a bakery to help provide and care for her seven siblings. She moved to Columbus from Granite City, Ill., in 1977, and was employed as head cook at Children Inc. for 13 years before becoming head cook at Bartholomew County Jail.
She retired in June of 2005 and was recognized as Bartholomew County Sheriffs Department Employee of the Year for 2005.
She attended Northview Assembly of God and loved to play bingo, go to the casino and spend time with her family and friends.
Born in Desoto, Mo., July 4, 1939, Mrs. Leeder was the daughter of Henry J. and Myrtle V. Maness DeGonia.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. DeGonia of Columbus; daughters, Vickie L. (Mike) Williamson Dischinger and Melissa A. (David) Bierlein, both of Columbus; brothers, Harold DeGonia and Donald DeGonia, both of Granite City, Ill.; sisters, Mary (Timothy) Johnson of Granite City, Ill., and Donna DeNormandie of Columbus; grandchildren, Andrea Cooper of Oregon, Tabitha (Brandon) Halstead of Columbus, Tyson Breeden of Columbus, Kaelee DeGonia of Scipio, Andrew Williamson of Columbus Mia DeGonia of Scipio and Kegan Bragg of Columbus; and her companion of 20 years, Allen C. Davis.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Bonnie DeGonia, Carol Hill and Betty Bladdick; and her parents.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Randall Burton officiating.
VISITATION: 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until service time Thursday. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery.
