Her obituary, from the Lincoln Sentinel-Republican, January 30, 1958:
Laura L. Briand
Laura Stone was born near Lincoln, Kan., Jan. 29, 1892, and departed this life Jan. 19, 1958, at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 20 days. She was the daughter of Solomon Wesley and Rose Ann Stone, and spent her childhood in Lincoln county. She taught school here before her marriage, and in the early months of World War II she taught in Ellsworth county.
She was united in marriage to Maurice Briand at Salina, Kan., May 27, 1914, and to this union were born six children. The family lived in Lincoln county on the farm until 1943, when they moved to Wichita, Kan. In the spring of 1947 they moved to a farm purchased at Burr Oak, Kan., where they resided until autumn of 1956 at which time they moved to Arnold, Kan.
Mrs. Briand joined the Burr Oak Methodist church by baptism Dec. 10, 1950.
The last five years Mrs. Briand's ill health kept her confined to her home but she was a patient sufferer, always cheerful and actively interested in those about her. She will be missed by those who knew her, as well as by her family.
Those left to mourn their loss, besides her husband, are three sons, Maurice Briand Jr., Herington, Kan.; Hal Briand, Owosso, Mich.; Sol Briand, Burr Oak, Kan.; three daughters, Virginia Crabtree, Arnold, Kan.; Joyce Van Meter, Smyrna, Ga.; Kay Rogers, Salina, Kan.; fourteen grandchildren; two brothers, Sol. W. Stone, Burlington, Colo.; Conrad L. Stone, Flagler, Colo.; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Alma Elizabeth, who died in infancy, and her brother, William L. Stoner (sic--Stone), who passed away Jan. 1 of this year.
The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Hall Memorial Chapel in Lincoln with Rev. R.H. Hendrickson in charge. Burial was in the Lincoln cemetery.
