Ness City -- Maurice "June" Briand Jr., 77, died June 8, 1995, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus, Hays. He was born July 28, 1917, in Lincoln County, the son of Maurice and Laura Stone Briand.

A Ness City resident since 1947, he was a brick mason. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ness City, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Dec. 13, 1950, he married Marcella Leiker at Ness City. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Marc Alan, Lawrence; four daughters, Suzanne Clark, Asheville, N.C., Michele Gillaspie, Seattle, Wash., Laura Giess, Arnold, and Simone Wilder, Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Hal, Owosso, Mich., and Sol, Arnold; two sisters, Virginia Crabtree, Ransom, and Kay Rogers, Overland Park; and four grandchildren.

Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ness City, with Father Marvin Reif presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
