Mary Collett Munger was the daughter of James Hamilton Collett and Margaret Ann Daviss Collett. Her mother died in when she and her sister, Maggie, were young children. She and sister Maggie lived in the home of their grandparents, William and Nancy Margaret (Philpott) Daviss in Freestone Co., Texas while her father was in the Civil War. After his return from the war he married Eliza Daviss, sister of their mother, Margaret Ann Daviss Collett. Eliza was really the only mother that she would remember.
