A.T. Biggs was born in Meigs county, Ohio, July 31, 1843; died at his home in Lane county, Kansas, Aug. 21, 1813 <1913>, aged 70 years and 21 days. Enlisted in the Union army in 1861 and was mustered out in 1865. Was married about 45 years ago to Emma Cornell in Ohio, who passed from this life in June 1911. To this union five children were born, three of whom survive him. They are Guy and Roy Biggs and Mrs. Anna Heeney, and all live in Lane county.
A.T. Biggs was at one time, we believe, the most widely known man in Lincoln county. For years he taught school and then was elected county superintendent; he was re-elected four times, thus giving him ten years in this office, and he was one of those old fashioned superintendents who believed he should keep in touch with the schools, their teachers and pupils all over the county. Because of his frequent trips to the schools over the county, a large portion of the people came to know him.
He lived at Sylvan Grove for some years, but about ten years ago he sold out and moved to Lane county.
The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. John Medcraft at Lincoln last Sunday. He was assisted by Rev. H.C. Bradbury; W.E. Lyon and A.J. Stanley also paid tributes to the memory of the departed friend and counsellor.
Deceased was one of four brothers, all of whom have passed away, the late Capt. J.J. Biggs, of this place, preceding him about one year.
The memory of this good man will remain with us for many years to come. His was a hearty fellowship, and it was always good to meet him.
