Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Sistrunk, age 83, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Deadwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Sistrunk passed away on Monday night, April 12, 2010, in Carthage.
Gertrude Peace Sistrunk was born on Feb. 5, 1927, in Ringgold, LA to Hollis and Vonnie Lee Wilson Peace. She married Cecil Byron Sistrunk on May 9, 1946, in Center, TX. She loved flowers and gardening. Mrs. Sistrunk moved to Carthage in 1929, from Ringgold and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage where she was also a member of the Sertrucha Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Hollis Peace.
Mrs. Sistrunk is survived by her husband of 63 years, Cecil Sistrunk of Carthage; two daughters, Debbie Weems and husband Elton of the Antioch Community and Carolyn Sue Butcher of Carthage; two grandsons, Brad Weems and wife Crystal of Carthage and Blake Weems and wife Brittney of Carthage; three great-grandchildren, Braley, Tucker, and Tanner Weems; three brothers, Jerry Peace and wife Laverne of the Antioch Community, Bill Peace and wife Reba of the Antioch Community, and Jack Peace of Shreveport; and four sisters, Nell Kalichak and husband Al of Montgomery, AL, Jimmie Cureton and husband E.V. of Lake Murvaul, Bobbie Barron of Shreveport, and Sandra Albritton and husband Mike of San Augustine.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Carthage Healthcare Center of Carthage and to the staff of ETMC-Carthage for the loving care shown to Mrs. Sistrunk.
