OBITUARY:
JULIUS KELSEY, WINNEBAGO, DEAD: Respected Pioneer and Civil War Veteran; Funeral Held Monday
Winnebago, January 22. Julius Kelsey, an old and esteemed citizen of Winnebago, passed away into the great beyond Saturday afternoon [19 Jan 1929] after a long illness. The deceased was born in Sweden in 1841 and when a very small child, he came to America with his parents. Upon the death of his parents soon after his arrival, he was cared for in the home of a brother [John O. Kelsey]. When 20 years of age, he enlisted and for five years fought in the Civil War. He is the last of his company [Company B of the 37 Illinois Volunteer Infantry] of more than 100 men to answer the Final Summons.
In 1868 he married Clarissa Himes. Five children came to bless the Kelsey home, three of whom preceded the father to the Betterland.
Mr. Kelsey was a member of the Baptist Church, and was very faithful in attendance until his health compelled him to stay home. He leaves to mourn his death his aged life companion, whose health is rapidly failing, and two children, Mrs. Mary Park adn Frank Kelsey. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon with Rev. Cody officiating.

Gravesite Details
Julius Kelsey came to the U.S. with his parents in 1846. His father died in 1847 and his mother died in 1849. A brother, John Kelsey, and friends from Sweden helped support the family.
