John Goninan Varker [Goninan is an old English family name in Thomas Varker's family.]

Birth: Abt 1852 in Davidson County, North Carolina,
Death 14 Sep 1915 in Lexington, Davidson, North Carolina
Burial: 15 Sep 1915 in Holloway's Baptist Church Cemetery, Southmont, Davidson County, North Carolina. No headstone has been found for John.

John was the 3rd son of Thomas Varker and Mary Ann Wright. Thomas was originally from England and the Captain of the Silver Hill Mine, when he met and married Mary Ann Wright Gaddis – a widow, with no children.

John appears in the 1860 and 1870 censuses with his mother and siblings – his father having been killed in a mining accident in 1854, in Mecklenburg, North Carolina.

On 23 May 1880, John married Alice Gallimore, daughter of Emerson Gallimore and Sarah Starr. They had the following children [there may be others, but these are known from censuses and lived to adulthood]:
Dau: Grace Varker 1885 – 1933
Dau: Ollie Edison Varker 1889 – 1977
Son: Archie Emerson Varker 1894 – 1950

Alice died in 1896 and is buried in Holloway's Baptist Church Cemetery [old section], but no headstone has been found for her.

John G Varker later married Annie C. Starr, [daughter of John David Starr and Elizabeth Trexler], by whom he had the following 4 daughters:
Myrtle Varker 1899 – 1930
Millow Varker 1900 – 1966
Edith Varker 1903 – 1924
Vernice Virgie Varker 1906 – 1966

John G Varker is also found in census years 1880, 1900 and 1910 [there being no surviving 1890 census].

John was buried in Holloway's Church Cemetery. He may or may not have been buried beside or near Alice's grave site - in the old section. Either way, both are buried there, but neither has a headstone to mark their sites.

Informant on John's d/c was widow, Annie. From the d/c, it appears that she knew nothing about John's family.

It should be noted that Annie C Starr was a cousin of Alice Gallimore's - Annie being daughter of David Starr and Alice the daughter of David's sister, Sarah.
