Velma Leona Taylor married J.G. "Jake" Baird on 17 January 1931 at Mobeetie, Texas. In 1934, they bought a store building in Flint Creek Community, opening Jake's Station and Grocery.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and owned Jake's Station. He was an oil lease operator. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Survived by his wife; daughters - Juanell Howard, JoAnn McQueen; sons - James Baird, Jr., Jerry Baird; brother - Tom Baird; sisters - Lois Moore, Lola Burress, Helen White, Mary Ellen Christian; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
