James Gaylord Baird, Jr., 88, of Big Spring, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022. He will lie in state from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

James was born August 10, 1933 in Mobeetie, Texas to James G. Baird and Velma Taylor Baird. He was a veteran of the United States Army and relocated to Big Spring following his discharge. He married Patsy Ruth Bennett November 24, 1956 in Big Spring. He retired from Cosden after 40 years of service. He enjoyed Chuck Wagon cook-offs with his brother and loved being in the mountains of Ruidoso. James enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid story-teller as he always had a story. He also enjoyed building in his shop. He was a member of Birdwell Lane Church of Christ.

James is survived by his two daughters: Cathy Denton (Kim) and Nancy Hull (Randy); his grandchildren: Andy Robinson, Colton Harper, Aric Denton and Kati Harper; nine great grandchildren; one brother: Jerry Baird and one sister Jo Ann McQueen.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter Sherrie Baird and a sister Juanell Howard.
