Local Woman Killed in Accident

A Bell County woman, Mrs. Frances Defevers of Kettle Island, was fatally injured in an automobile accident early Sunday near Morristown, Ind.
Mrs. Defevers died in a Shelbyville hospital at 2:30 a.m., only 45 minutes after the crash. Shelby County Coroner, Dr. James H. Tower said death was caused by a skull fracture and internal injuries.
Mrs. Defevers was riding in the back seat of the car with her husband, Jack Defevers, who suffered a fractured neck. The car was driven by William Swanson, 22, of Marion, Ind.
Mrs. Swanson gave birth to an eight-pound daughter in the Shelbyville hospital three hours after the accident.
Funeral services for Mrs. Defevers were held Wednesday, October 7, at the Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. W.B. Bingham officiating. Internment followed in the family Cemetery, Kettle Island.
In addition to her husband Jack, she is survived by her parents, Charlie and Mattie Lefevers and one son, Charles Anthony Defevers; three brothers, Charles, Fred and Sonny Lefevers of Kettle Island; six sisters, Mrs. Pauline Pennett, Jenson; Mrs. Willie Hoskins, Cumberland; Margaret Lefevers, Kettle Island; Mrs. Bonnie Elliott, Mrs. Mary Helen Elliott and Mrs. Barbara Burnett all of Pineville.
Durham Funeral Home was in charge.
