The Sac Sun - Thursday , December 28th, 1905 - Mrs Melinda C Owells died on Friday night, Dec 23, 1905 at the home of her son Judson C Owells in Sac City in her 85th year.
Funeral services were conducted at the Owells home on Sunday afternoon by Rev Collins, pastor of the Baptist church and the interment took place at a beautiful spot in the recent addition to Oakland cemetery.
Melinda C Pease Owells was born in Genesee county, NY March 11, 1821. She was the eldest of 6 children and survived them all. In her 18th years she gave her heart to Christ and joined the Baptist church of which her father, Rev Alanson Pease was pastor. About the year 1839 she moved with her parents by wagon to Crystal Lake, McHenry county, IL.
In 1850 she was married to William Owells. To this union 4 children were born, namely: Frank S Owells, now living in Morrison, IL; Judson C Owells of Sac City, with whom she made her home for 23 years; and 2 others who died in infancy.
Besides caring for her own family, she took loving care of 2 children of her husband by his first wife: Mary Owells Brand, now of Pittsburg, PA and Herman Owells, now deceased. These two loved her as their own mother. In 1891 she moved with her son Judson C Owells to Iowa coming to Sac City in 1903.
