Gladys A Best, was born on a farm near Elliott,ND, on October 22, 1909 to Howard and Florence (Morgan) Wickwire. She received her early education at a country school near Elliott. In 1916, she moved with her parents to the Crete area where she finished school. In 1930, they moved to Oakes where she was employed at the North American Creamery Company. In 1935 she married Art Best in Oakes. They made their home in Oakes. He died in 1977.
She is survived by three sons, Richard, Grand Forks, ND, Larry, Staples, MN, and Daryl of Fargo; a brother Clifford Wickwire, Denver, CO; a sister. Florence (Mrs Sam) Gibson, Fullerton, ND, nine grandchildren and seven great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her only daughter Cleone.
She died Monday, June 19 at Oakes Community Hospital having reach the age of 79 years.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oakes with Reverend Gerald D. Oliver officiating. Burial was at Oakes View Cemetery.
Casket bearers were as follows: Ton Orn, Ernest Titus, Harvey Karas, Tim Gibson, Glen Hudson and Bud Reed. Linda Roney served as organist for the funeral and Ray Schnell was soloist.
