Rasmus Amundson 89, died at the Huron hospital on March 11, after a short illiness that developed into double pneumonia.
Mr. Amundson was born April 14, 1867, at Hafslo, Norway. At the age of 22 he married Metta Skildrum also of Hafslo, who preceded him in death 20 years ago, To this union six children were born: A. J. Amundson, Huron: Mrs. Marie Schwalen, Coronade, Calif., who died 3 years ago; Mrs. Josephine Lesney, Anoconda, Mont.; Mrs. Emma Gassling, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Violet Wertz, La Porte, Ind.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 14, at Weltus Funeral home, in Huron, with Rev. Sender Tollefson officiating. Internment was made at Midway Lutheran cemetery on March 15.
Rasmus Amundson came to this country in 1869 and homesteaded in Moody county for several years later moving to Brookings, where he lived till the last three years. Theses he spent at Huron with his son, owing to ill health.
Mr. Amundson is survived, in addition to his five children, by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Of those A. J. Amundson, Mabel Schaffer, Violet Wertz, and Richard Lesney were present at the funeral.
