Funeral services for Mike Quinn were conducted Thursday, June 23rd from the First Christian Church in Beaver City. Mr. Leonard Wilfong, pastor, officiated at the last rites.
Mike Quinn, son of Bridget and James Quinn, was born on April 13, 1878 at Kentland, Indiana and passed from this life on June 19, 1960 at the St. Catherine's Hospital in McCook Nebraska at the age of 82 years, two months and six days.
He moved with his parents to Furnas County when he was 18 months old; to where they homesteaded, which was 3 miles southeast of Hollinger. He was the youngest of 11 children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church.
He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Gilchrist of Iowa on January 22, 1902 and to this union five children were born: Frank S. Quinn of Caldwell, Idaho, Robert A. Quinn of Long Beach, California, Emery A. Quinn of Beaver City, Floyd E. Quinn of Edison and Ella M. Weir of Beaver City. Robert of Long Beach, California was the only child not present for the last rites being here recently and returning home two weeks ago.
Mike farmed in this county most all his life and the greater portion of that time, 30 years, was spent on a farm four miles south of Beaver City. After coming to Nebraska, he lived his entire life in this county except for one year which was spent in Colorado.
In the fall of 1943 they moved to Beaver City and have made it their home ever since.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and five children. He also leaves 10 grandchildren: Grant Quinn, Bernard Quinn, Alta Hahn, Bobby Quinn, Alonzo Quinn, Phyllis Hardin, Dennis Quinn, Jeanine Quinn, Donna Reiss and Gerald Quinn. Gerald was unable to be present for the services since he was in Spain. He also leaves 19 great-grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In all the years of his treatments and in his suffering he was very patient and never complained. He will be remembered by the people of this community as one who was always ready and willing to help those in need. He will be remembered by his family as a kind and loving father.
"That Beautiful City" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sang by Mrs. Leonard Wilfong and Mrs. Don Dusenberry. Mrs. Lyle Mayo accompanied the singers at the organ.
Interment was made in the Oxford Cemetery. Pallbearers were Grant S. Quinn, Bernard M. Quinn, Alonzo Quinn, John Quinn, Robert L. Quinn and Rodney Hardin.
Hopping-Haase Funeral Home of Beaver City was in charge of arrangements.
