Born at "Windsor",the eldest son of Major William Woodford and Ann Cocke Woodford.Distinguished himself in the French and Indian War and at the outbreak of the Revolution was appointed Colonel of the Second Virginia Regiment.Was severely wounded at the Battle of Brandywine and at the seige of Charleston,S.C.was taken prisoner,he was taken to New York City where he died at the age of 46.
