Named after her maternal grandmother, Virginia Ann Deering, who was the wife of Hugh Lawson White (HLW) Hill. The Deering place/cabin, atop Cumberland Mtn, was in the middle of HLW's vast land holdings (now on land owned by ISHA). She married James Lavander Coppinger on March 4, 1878, in Grundy County, Tennessee. Like many families in the area, they moved to Texas in the mid-1880's, James was a school teacher, there being plenty of opportunity for him there near Cameron. Virginia fell ill & passed in Texas, her remains returning by train to Warren County. Most of the family returned to Tennessee shortly afterwards.
