He was always a man of honor, devoted to family and friends. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 274 in Virginia Beach, Scottish Rite Bodies and Khedive Shrine Temple. He was the founder, first captain and charter member of Khedive Temple Mini 18 Wheeler Unit and an associate member of Khedive Temple Drum and Bugle Corps. He was an Oceana High School alumnus and a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Virginia Church of Virginia Beach; two stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; several cousins, including Margaret Roper of Virginia Beach; and a very special friend, William Raher of Crowley, Texas. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mabel Brumley Church.
A service will be conducted at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the pastor of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, the Rev. C. Eugene Meek and Mr. Church's stepgrandson, the Rev. Dale Buettner of York, Pa., on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
