'Del' was the first of 2 children of Floyd Chapman Nash, a building contractor, and Leora Margaret Hamm, a dressmaker and homemaker. He had one younger sister, Norma Fern Nash.

Del's family was living in Ames when he was born, and at that time his father was a local mail carrier. In 1922 the family headed to the Los Angeles Ca. area and settled in Highland Park, where Del went to school and learned to play the bass fiddle, which became a lifelong hobby and part-time occupation. For the most part, he worked as a laborer and carpenter.

He married first to Helen Elaine White on October 14, 1941, no known children.

He married second to Audrey Rose Noeller on February 1, 1944 , and they had a daughter together. They moved from Highland Park to Anaheim in the mid-1950s and lived there for several years.

He married third to Junne 'Sully' M. Pelmear on January 23, 1965, no children. Sully died in January of 1968.

He married fourth to Catherine 'Cathy' Elizabeth Fousse on December 6, 1976, no children. Together they were avid backyard gardeners and enthusiasts of authentic Mexican cuisine.

Delbert also had one son whose mother was Eva W. Sizemore.

After retiring from carpentry, Del owned and operated Del's Bike Shop in downtown Huntington Beach for many years, and is still remembered by the locals there, some of them having been just young kids when Del took them under his wing and helped them earn a few dollars.

He was handsome, funny and charismatic, and gentle as a lamb to furry critters with whom he always spoke baby talk. He was adored by generations of family and friends.
