Monsignor Aloysius W. Van Buijtenen was born on March 11, 1920 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. While studying to be a priest, he answered God's further call to leave his homeland and work in Acadiana where there was a great need for priests. He was ordained in Lafayette, Louisiana on December 17, 1949.

After serving as an assistant pastor in Lake Arthur, Melville, Lake Charles, and Lafayette, he was appointed pastor in Bell City, Beginning in 1967 he served as pastor for the Catholic communities of Iowa, Lacassine, and Chloe.

Father Van B. was proud to be a US citizen and so it is fitting that his body should rest here. His soul lives forever with God and all His saints and heaven must be a merrier place with his sense of humor.
