Arabella and her only full brother Andrew Hugh Gilleland were the products of their father Andrew Michael Gilleland's second marriage to their mother Jane. Her father Andrew's first wife died shortly after her last child was born. Father Andrew had five children by his first wife. Her mother Jane raised these children as her own, some of them quite young at the time. Arabella named a couple of her own children after these older half-siblings - John and Sarah.

Arabella's father was Irish born from Galway. Arabella, her older brother and all
of their older half-sibling were all born in Pennsylvania. Arabella married an Irishman herself with husband Samuel Creighton coming from County Down, Northern Ireland when he was 8 years old. Their early marriage was spent in Sewickley, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Their first three children (of 9) were born while still in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Hancock County, Ohio in 1841. Sadly Arabella and Samuel would lose their two eldest children to childhood diseases a few years after the move to Ohio. Son John who was the first child of theirs, born in Ohio, would also lose his life early due to Scarlet Fever when he was just 18.

Upon the move to Hancock County, Ohio, husband Samuel Creighton acquired a large purchase of acreage in Cass Township, near Findlay, which would remain their home for the remainder of their lives. Her husband Samuel was elected a Justice of the Peace for Hancock County in 1848. He would serve four terms. After that service he became a County Commissioner for Hancock County. Arabella and husband Samuel had a good marriage. Both lived into their eighties. Husband Samuel died one year shy of their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

One child not yet located for burial:

Samuel L Creighton (b.1853- d. ? after 1910), was in Hancock County, Ohio through the 1900 census. Son Samuel and his wife Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Swindler) Creighton divorced by 1910. Their three children are attached to her memorial. Lizzie was known to have mental problems which likely precipitated the divorce.
