James Suggett was born in Orange County, Virginia on May 2, 1775. He was with his father, John Suggett, at the defence of Bryants Station in 1782. James Suggett married Sarah Redding, daughter of Rev. Joseph Redding, in 1794 and moved to Kentucky where was baptised in the Baptist church by Rev. Joseph Redding on May 2, 1800. Ordained on October 1, 1810 he served as pastor of Great Crossings Baptist Church in Scott County, Kentucky. James Suggett served in the war of 1812 as a Chaplain and a fighting man. He was at the decisive battle of the Thames with Col. R. M. Johnson's Regiment of Kentucky regulars. Rev Suggett was a noted Baptist preacher in Boone and Callaway Counties, Missouri from 1822 until his death. James was instrumental in the establishment of Providence Baptist church in New Bloomfield, Missouri. He died in 1851 and is buried in the church cemetery with his wife Sarah.
